A 50TH
It is rare enough to find a gem of a hotel – let alone one of the finest in the world no less, which retains its fundamental charm and exquisite provenance in certain areas of its estate, yet partners that with vision and new experiences in the areas of dining, well-being, and accommodation.
2016 is a special year for the Chewton Glen, it represents 50 years of hospitality of the very highest standard, and to celebrate a six-course menu – a gastronomic journey tasting the years; 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990, 2010, and 2013.
The Chewton Glen, that’s the entire introduction it needs – its very experience is like a journey through the five decades that it is celebrating. The main entrance through the walled garden and a warm welcome from familiar faces and straight to the Marryat’s Bar, an Enjoy favourite and a celebratory Champagne cocktail, as our barman explained – Hennessy Paradis Impérial Cognac with Taittinger Comtes de Champagne and of course they add gold leaf, in typically Chewton style!
Nibbles, olives, baba ghanoush, and engaging chat from the bar.
The menu is fixed, it is a seven-course gastronomic timeline of the hotel’s and the country’s favourites over the years.
In the bar it has to be said that the Enjoy party made bets as to what would be on the menu and we came up with three out of the seven...
Several home-baked breads include white, brown, and sourdough... a window table, garden views, and a bustling Sunday service.
