There have been many success stories surrounding the rekindling of a concept and brand that worked so well, but had seen its course in previous years... take Pokémon for example!
Another Asian concept that has emerged under a new guise is Ocean Palace – once Bournemouth’s must-go Chinese restaurant, bustling, high turnover, a top-class consistent menu and a who’s who of local celebrity.
Today, in a stroke of genius, Ocean Palace has been taken out of retirement and can be found in the Sandbanks Hotel, which is significantly closer to the ocean than it originally was through the 90s and noughties!
The brainchild of the FJB Group of hotels, this remodelled Ocean Palace, has popped up in the Compass Room in the family hotel on Poole’s Sandbanks peninsula, literally on the beach.
For those of you that remember the original Ocean Palace, you will feel quite at home, familiar faces – exceptionally efficient service and the best Chinese in the county from an incredibly comprehensive menu. For those of you new to the Ocean Palace concept, this is a little piece of China to be savoured.
The environment in which you’ll find the pop-up is not one you’d expect from this Asian proposition, as the Sandbanks Hotel is as much beach and bar as it is fine dining – but it doesn’t matter. If you love Chinese food you will love Ocean Palace.
Over 140 dishes to choose from – classic appetizers with a great selection of combinations if you are in a party of more than four – always a great idea, the favourite soup and duck mid-courses, succulent seafood, bird’s nests
of Szechuan sea spicy scallops, speciality sizzling dishes along with meat, rice, and noodle mains.
We dined with a number of guests and elected to go with a set dinner at £27 a head. The Ocean de Luxe entices
