We do love a nibble here at Enjoy and what better way to keep the hunger at bay with a few Jetty Bites and cockle popcorn?
Loving Alex’s twice-baked cheese soufflé on the menu
– it’s a favourite but elect to go with the Jetty sashimi – sea bass, tuna, scallop with wasabi, miso pickled ginger, keta, soy and Asian salad. Presented like a work of art, colourful, delicate and quayside fresh. A glass of Picpoul de Pinet matches beautifully!
Other starters of chunky fish soup and tartare of fish or meat are enticing, but the sashimi won by a margin as fine as the pickled ginger...
A timely break, a chat with the waiter, who is friendly and interested with a perfect balance between conversation and informed service – really impressive all round.
The main course has a subheading of ‘crustacea’ – lobster, mussels, fruits de mer – hot or cold and the robust choice of cod and crab with crushed peas and mashed potato, fish and chips, cutlet or brill and a really good selection of turf options and mixes such as the duck and squid, pork shellfish ratatouille and prime steaks.
The decision was made earlier in the afternoon when the menu was first considered – the Jetty mix fish grill – local fish and shellfish served on the bones with fennel,
tomato, garlic and herbs with Jetty seaweed butter. It’s hearty, vibrant, fresh, aromatic and tactile. Everything one could want from a mixed grill and as Enjoy’s review was undertaken solo on this occasion, a great way to remain engaged, fish by fingers and not a shell left unturned! A side of fat chips and a glass of unwooded Chardonnay from South Africa and more informal chat to the team.
The dessert menu boasts a Pudding of the Day – we love that concept but not enough to beat the chocolate tart with pistachio and raspberries with a Pedro Ximenez Mira la Mar.
We are delighted that when we travel in the South we can find something of this calibre to rely upon. The Jetty is a massive asset in the Harbour Hotels. Try any one of the
13 to date, with a concept hotel underway on the water in Southampton – this group means tasty business... brighton
