There is something comforting about tradition. The Priory Hotel in Wareham – on the banks of the River Frome for example – has, for as long as one can remember, been the epitome of English hospitality and indeed formality.
There is something that is equally as reassuring, and that is change – an irony perhaps, but combine the two and you are assured of longevity.
Enter the new-look Garden Room Restaurant, or should we say ‘Rise, the Garden Room’ as this beautiful 60-cover restaurant at the Priory Hotel has literally risen from the river-facing gardens! Taking its name from its charming predecessor (now rebranded as the John Turner Room, named after the late owner of the hotel), this new development looks like it has been there for years – it is so very in keeping with the hotel.
Glass frontage looks out over the river, the menu another of head chef Stephan Guinebault’s masterpieces for lunch and dinner – an irresistible choice of seafood and meat; salt and pepper crispy squid, chicken liver and
foie gras parfait, Kimmeridge lobster, ‘Jurassic Farm’ rose veal schnitzel, West Dorset lamb cutlets with sides and a confident note that the service charge is down
to the customer’s discretion – proportionate to their appreciation – quite right!
Guests of the hotel will enjoy breakfasts in the Garden Room as well, and if you would like to visit the Priory for a meal, preceded by a drink on the terrace, do book in advance.
The Priory was a very popular dining destination before, with the subterranean and romantic attraction of the Abbot’s Cellar, now there is a bright new addition to this fabulous hotel in the shape of the Garden Room.
