THE BOTANIST PLANTS ITS ROOTS IN READING
The award-winning ‘The New World Trading Company’ (NWTC) has opened a new Botanist in Reading.
The Botanist has bedded in to the ground floor of a former Barclays Bank. The King Street building has been a bank ever since 1814, when William Simonds of brewer ‘Simonds’ Reading’ set it up. It was called Simonds’ Bank until it merged with Barclays in 1913. Simonds’ brass nameplate – ‘J and C Simonds’ – is still on the wall today.
The Botanist is a unique concept inspired by all things botanical and the space plays host to live music with energetic evening gigs, along with lazy Sunday afternoon sessions enjoying a real home-from-home atmosphere.
As well as a selection of world-famous beers and ales, the extensive botanical menu sees a whole host of fresh fruit, herbs and spirits, merged and muddled to create
a number of unique delights. With over 45 botanical creations there’s plenty to choose from; a number of long
and short cocktails are available alongside martinis, flutes and a selection of non-alcoholic cocktails. Guests can also expect classic cocktails with a botanical twist, such as a Rhubarb Gin Old Fashioned or a Blackberry Mint Julep.
Alongside the extensive drinks offering, discerning diners will feast on food inspired by the deli, rotisserie and BBQ.
General manager Matt Tomkins said: “We are very excited that we have a home in such a vibrant city, people from Reading have been so welcoming and we are thrilled to be a part of it!”
With 13 Botanists countrywide, and the concept-brand filtering through to the South, we all have much to look forward to.
